CHARACTERIZATION
(The Color Purple)
There are many characters in the novel The Color Purple. The most important character of this novel is named Celie. She is a narrator of this book. In this novel, she wrote many letters to God. Why did write to God? Ok, I will tell you why but let me tell you later.
Celie's father killed both their children that she had by him. Anther girl and boy, he sold them to a childless couple. When she knew father had turn to her sister, nettle more than any thing else in the world.
Slowly, Celie's father let her marry a cruel man, Albert, who really wanted to marry Nettie. For a time, she is more slave to her husband than she is a wife. Her husband's mistress, Shug, comes to the house to recuperate and Celie becomes her nurse. Shug encourages her to grow stronger psychologically. Similarly, Celie's daughter-in-law Sofia shows Celie how to stand up and fight. However, this is not easy for her to learn how to verbalize her independence, and it is harder still for her act on these new concepts, but after she discovers how intentionally cruel her husband has been to her. She rebels and throws off her role as a slave to her husband.
By the end of the story, Celie struggle to find love, self-esteem, and continuing courage despite harsh setbacks. She learned injustice and fight for herself and she was rewarded.
Celie is very important in the novel because she makes up most of the story. She wrote about her difficult life and how she struggled with it. I admire her that she has a great confidence to face her problems and struggle with the cruel man. Nevertheless, I would not as if to be the main character, if I was Celie, I might not be as good as her. I would chose suicide to finish my whole life. In fact, I couldn't stand such a life for one minute.
Anyway, Celie is so incredible for me, I would like to be her friend, I want to know what makes her so strong and how she endures in such a life.
